Nokia Pureview 808 coming to United States unlocked

Nokia Pureview 808 coming to United States unlocked Nokia broke all sorts of rules when they talked about the release of a smartphone that had a 41MP camera sensor in it.  On top of that, the company did not make mention of the new “superphone” coming to the United States, but this week, that all changed as Nokia said the Pureview 808 will be coming to the states in an unlocked version.  PCMag talked to Nokia and found out that the unlocked version will be AT&T-friendly.  Nokia’s US President Chris Weber said, “We’ll figure out a way to make that available in the U.S. in the next couple of months.”  One large step will be paying full price for the unit since it will not be offered by any carrier.

Because of the larger than normal camera on the Pureview, there are plenty of video reviews online and the reviews are favorable.  Even though the phone will not appeal to everyone that wants a smartphone, there is a niche market that can be filled here for sure.  The Nokia 808 was announced in February of 2012 and is one of the last Symbian powered Nokia’s that will show up in the United States.  Other than the powerful camera, the phone comes with a 4-inch display, but a lower resolution and pixel density take away from the AMOLED enjoyment.  Battery life is above average with 11 hours of tested talk time and over 19 days on standby.  If you are talking with your 3G radio on, the 1400mAh battery life is cut in half.

The 41MP camera with LED, Xenon flash and F2.4 lens make the phone quite bulky weighing almost 6 ounces.  The camera sensor can record full 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second, plus it features video light, continuous focus and video calling.  The web cam on the front is very small at 0.3MP, which is terrible quality compared to other models that are as large as 2MP.  The Symbian browser supports HTML, HTML5, XHMTL, WAP 2.0, Flash Lite, Java and XML.  Technology in the Pureview covers just about every spectrum you can throw at it in GSM, UMTS and HSDPA connections.  GPS and navigation are also included, as they are on most phones these days.  If you are thinking about picking up the Nokia Pureview 808 you can expect to pay upwards of $650+ for the unlocked version.
